Virginia B Rutherford

March 17, 1919 - April 8, 2009

Our Mother,
Virginia (Wade) Rutherford went home to be with her Lord on April 8th , 2009 surrounded by her family, after 90 years of a full life
Virginia was born on March 17, 1919 to the Reverend Lillian and Julius Wade in Worcester, She fell in love and married Loman “Jake” Rutherford in 1939. Together they built and made their home in Rutland for 54 years where they raised ten children and several foster children. She spent the past ten years in the loving care of her daughter Bonnie Rutherford with whom she lived.
Her devoted husband “Jake” went home to the Lord in 1990. She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons, Donald J. Rutherford and his wife Sandra of Punta Gorda, Florida, Robert T. Rutherford of Shrewsbury, David P. Rutherford and his wife Patricia, and Edgar C. Harris all of Worcester; three daughters, Bonnie Lee Rutherford of Rutland, Linda L. Rutherford, Lillian M. Bonsra and her husband Bernard all of Worcester; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; 3 daughters in law Susan Adamski, Donna Harris and Cheryl Rutherford; many nieces, nephews, and friends. A son, Worcester Police Detective Lieutenant Loman A. Rutherford, Sr., daughters, Carolyn Foster, Shirley Blouncson and Eiffie Jackson, as well as grandsons Donald James and Aaron all predeceased her.
Virginia and her husband Jake were Deacons at the Mount of Olives Church on Highland Street. The church founded by her Mother Rev. Lillian Wade
Virginia worked teaching occupational skills at Rutland Heights Hospital and at the Occupational Training Center in Worcester for 25 years. She was also a nurse aide for many years at the Rutland Cancer Hospital. Years after retirement Virginia and Jake began a feeding and fellowship program at the church for seniors.
Mother loved knitting, reading and visits from her grand kids. For those who hope only in this life, death is the ultimate sadness; the end of life. But God wants us to grasp the power of the resurrection; Death is not the end, but just the beginning. And when this perishable shall put on the imperishable and this mortal will put on immortality. Then we will say that which was written, O death were is thy victory, O death were is thy sting. Praise God for the victory thru Jesus Christ our savior forever!
