Joseph Anthony Barbieri
December 15, 1918 - October 1, 2008
Joseph Anthony Barbieri, 89, St. Augustine, died October 1, 2008 at his home. He was born on December 15th, 1918, in the Bronx, NY to the late Luigi and Francesca Barbieri, and had resided in St. Augustine since 1986, moving here from Maidenhead, England. His life had been full of a wonderful variety of experiences and memories, having retired from Pan American Airways after 34 years in Flight Service. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WW II in Africa and Sicily.
Joseph was an adoring husband and father. He was a strong and supportive man, with a heart full of love for all of his family and friends. Although America was his true home, he always enjoyed his trips to England and Italy where he had spent many years of his life. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his passion and skills for Italian cooking, his love of Italian music often bursting into song while kneading some pizza dough, the twinkle in his eyes and his quiet pride and pleasure in being surrounded by those he loved.
He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Margaret “Maggie” Barbieri, St. Augustine; children, Francesca Bellavista, St. Augustine; Catherine LeBusque, Witney, England; Joseph Barbieri, Elm Mott, TX; Linda Barbieri, Seaford, NY; Michael Barbieri, Seaford, NY; also his sister, Maria Theresa Meli, Parsippany, NJ; and 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 infant sons, John and Daniel Barbieri.
