BiographyFrancis J. Murphy, 90, former owner of F. J. Murphy Jewelry Store, Pottsville and a resident of Seton Manor Nursing home, Orwigsburg for the past three and half years died Thursday at Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian St., Pottsville. He was born December 2, 1917 in Pottsville son of the late Frank J., and Emma Mootz Murphy. He was a graduate of Pottsville High School and attended watchmaker school in Minersville. He served with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Phillips and Jones Rod and Reel Club, Catholic War Veterans Post 1051, Pottsville and was an active participant with the honor guard of the Pottsville Joint Veterans Council. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Winifred Boyer on November 29, 1984, a brother, Dr. Raphael Murphy and a sister, Rita Sweich. Surviving are three sons, Daniel F. Murphy and his wife Hermine, Pottsville, Thomas R. Murphy, Waterbury Center, Vermont, and Patrick J. Murphy and his wife, Kim, Pottsville: 2 grandchildren, Sean and Mallory Murphy, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 A.M. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, with Rev. David J. Loeper as the celebrant. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Monday morning from 10:00 A.M. till the time of Mass. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to Hillside S.P.C.A, P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901 or Alzheimers Association at www.alz.org.
