Ira Lee Lipsey

August 12, 1925 - October 7, 2012


Ira Lee Lipsey, a retired educator died at he North Mississippi Medical Center on October 7, 2012 after an brief illness.

He was a devoted member of Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church where he once served as Sunday School Teacher, Recording Secretary and a member of the Stewart Board. He was dedicated to his church, family and the community. He was the widow of Etoy Bean Lipsey.

A graduated of Houston High School, Ololona Jr. College, Mississippi Industrial College.

A retired teacher from the Okolona Public School System, a former teacher with Chapel Grove Church School, where this was a one room school house and Fannie Carter High School.

Ira Lee Lipsey, was devoted and active in his community by serving as a Boy Scout Leader for many, many years, held several offices in the Missssippi Union Shape Notes Singers, once served with the Prwae Hall Mason where he served as worshipfull master, President of the Colored Benevolent Societies camp 81a.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents; Thomas and Modessie Hill Lipsey, two brothers; Augstery Lipsey, George Willie Lipsey one grand son; Tony daughter; Dubbe "Debra" Lipsey, three sisters; Lucille Crawford, Bessie Mae Jennings, Hendren Enoch.

He is survived by his four children;Joe Ira (Betty) Lipsey, Sr., Daarlene (Bobby Joe) Johnson, Yolanda Bounds, Dellcine (Johnnie) Brown, three brothers; Chester Lipsey, Thomas Lipsey, Columbus Lpsey, one sister; Arstillure Tubbs, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends and the community of which he lived.
