Geraldine “Jerri” Windham Martindill, 84, of El Dorado, AR went to be with her Lord Thursday, March 18, 2010 after a short illness at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.
She was the daughter of the late Henry Roy Windham and Flossie Dee Combs Windham. Jerri was born April 19, 1925 in Forrest, MS and shortly after birth, her family moved to El Dorado where she was a life long resident. She attended Parkers Chapel High School where she played basketball and became the secretary of her graduating class. She received her teaching credentials at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and was a life long member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teaching sorority. It was here she met and married her life long love of 61 years Herman Martindill. Jerri began her teaching career at the Old Retta Brown and a few of her colorful first grade students included Miss America Donna Axum, Mayor Mike Dumas and former pro football player and Arkansas Razorback standout Glen Ray Hines. After the birth of her sons, she returned to teaching at the First United Methodist Church where she taught kindergarten for many years. In the late seventies, Jerri began a new and exciting career with her Mother Flossie Windham at Windham’s Flower Shoppe. She had a unique sense of humor that allowed her creativity to flourish. She was recycling when recycling wasn’t cool! She was a lifelong Methodist and member of Parkers’ Chapel and First United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Mark Dean Martindill and brother Charles Windham. She is survived by her husband, son Wyck Y. Martindill (Debbie) of Pine Bluff, AR, brothers Henry Horace Windham (Kathleen) of Bethany, LA and Forrest D. Windham (Paula) of Holiday Island, AR one sister Alice “Shug” Crumpler of El Dorado AR, granddaughter Alicia Faye Martindill and a great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church with visitation to be held from 9 AM till service time at the church. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
