Donald Ray Frazier
December 26, 1946 - January 3, 2012
Donald Ray Frazier, age 65, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2012. He was born in Carroll County, VA on December 26, 1946 to Jerry Jefferson and Laeula Rebecca Frazier. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Frazier, his baby sister, Cathy Jean Frazier, and his brother-in-law, Jerry Shank.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Laeula Frazier of Hillsville; his wife, Sue Frazier of the home; daughters and sons-in-law Tammy and Thomas Bartlett of Colonial Heights and Tina and Steven Winesett of Hillsville; son and daughter-in-law Donald Matthew and Manika Frazier of Max Meadows; six grandchildren Brandon and Corey Winesett, Christopher and Greyson Bartlett, Katelyn Frazier and Cameron Morgan; brother and sister-in-law Jerry Lee and Phyllis Frazier of Newbern, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law Thelma and Garnett Burris of Wytheville, Mary Shank of Hillsville, and Christine and Jack Bolen of Hillsville; step children and spouses Dawn and Chris Moran of Cleveland, OH, Melissa and Angelo McMillian of Texas, and Kimberly and Josh Lester of Lynchburg; and five step-grandchildren. Many nephews and nieces, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, the mother of his children, Delphia Frazier and numerous cousins and friends also survive.
Don will be remembered best for the things he loved most. He loved the Lord and answered the call to the ministry and served as pastor of the Barren Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 20 years. As he served there, his faith in the Lord grew and so did his love for the church and his church family. He loved his family. He and his wife had celebrated their second wedding anniversary on the day of his passing. During the time they shared together, she quickly became his strength and cherished companion. He loved his children and grandchildren; they were truly his pride and joy. When each grandchild came along it multiplied this love. Don loved farming and he worked alongside his own father until his passing. Then he, along with his son Matthew, continued on with their shared passion for farming and caring for cattle and horses. It was this shared love for horses that first took them to the Holmes County area of Ohio. Don settled there and continued the farm life he loved until his life was cut short by a tragic house fire.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, Virginia from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Shorts Creek Church of God with Reverend Harvey Carico presiding. After the service he will be laid to rest beside his father in the Shorts Creek Cemetery. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
