Life Legacy

Elizabeth Adele (Root) Leroux, 86, passed away at her home under Hospice care in Acworth, Georgia, on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, after a short illness. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Affectionately called "Bet" or "Betty", by friends and family, she was born at her home on Wawbeek Ave., in Tupper Lake, NY, on September 5, 1926, the 10th of 18 children, to the late Ernest J. Sr. and Mary E. (Bishop) Root. The family included a set of twin girls, Colleen Root Girouard and Noreen Root Conley, and twin boys, Dennis and Donald Root, as well as sisters Margaret Root Sullivan, Patricia Root, Eleanor Root Rickborne, Catherine Root Holly, Grace Root LeSarso, and brothers Francis Root, Clarence Root, Ernest Root, Maurice Root, William Root, Kenneth Root, Lawrence Root, and Thomas Root. All have predeceased her, with the exception of sister Grace Root LaSarso, who resides in Glens Falls, NY. Elizabeth was a high school graduate of Holy Ghost Academy, Tupper Lake, NY, in 1946. On September 5, 1954, she married R. Richard Leroux at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Tupper Lake. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Mercy General Hospital, Monakey Pharmacy and Maid’s Drug Store, in Tupper Lake. Both she and her husband were members of Holy Name Church, where they both sang in the choir. She and Richard raised 6 children in their home town of Tupper Lake, New York, until Richard's career as a construction superintendent took the family to Plattsburgh, NY, in 1974. As a result of his work, they subsequently resided in Massena, NY, Daytona, Cape Coral, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Hampton, Virginia. After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia where Richard worked for approximately 10 years, they were fortunate enough to enjoy the retirement years together, surrounded by the families of 2 of their sons and 1 daughter. Elizabeth especially loved the times when her children planned family reunion get-togethers at their home. She and Richard enjoyed wonderfully planned anniversary parties by their children, including their 50th in 2004 at Ruth Chris Steak House in Marietta, GA, attended by all their children and Richard’s sisters and brother-in-law, Donna Leroux Carrow, Velma Leroux Lines and Dean Lines, and Susan Leroux Sabin. Throughout her life Elizabeth enjoyed embroidering and hand sewing, gardening, cooking and baking, music, (especially when her husband would sing to her), walking on the beach and collecting seashells. She had strong pro-life convictions which led her to take part in many pro-life activities. Her passion was to collect second hand baby clothes and return them to like new condition. She spent hours on stain removal, washing and mending baby clothes to be sent to St. Catherine’s right to life organization. She enjoyed traveling with her husband after her children were grown. Her favorite place to visit was Marco Island, Florida. She also traveled to Hawaii and made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Rome, Italy. She is survived by: Her spouse, R. Richard Leroux, Acworth Georgia; Her children: Helari Leroux, his wife, Doreen (Mylie) Leroux, of Acworth, GA, and their children Margaret & Elise Leroux, of Kennesaw, GA; Mary (Leroux) Boggs and her husband, James Boggs, of Greenville, SC; Patty (Leroux) Proulx and her husband, James Proulx, and their 4 children Patrick Proulx, Sarah (Proulx) Gee, her husband Tom Gee and their 2 children Lillianne and Adeline Gee, all of Watertown, NY; Emily Proulx of Woodstock, GA, and Colleen (Proulx) Okoniewski of Taylorsville, Mississippi; Claire (Leroux) Powers and her husband, Matthew Powers, and their 2 children Kristen Powers and Nicholas Powers and his wife Alicia (Pruitt) Powers, all of Woodstock, GA; Joseph Leroux and his wife Patricia (Aguilar) Leroux, and their children and step-children, Jaqueline and Michelle Leroux and Ricky Meighan, of Acworth, GA, and Richard and Daniel Leroux of Athens, GA; Margaret (Leroux) Wagy and her husband Marc Wagy, and their 2 children, Joshua and Andrew Wagy, all of Dewitt, VA. A few words that sum up Elizabeth’s life are: God, Family, and Unselfish. She was so grateful for all the blessings in her life. She recently celebrated her 58th wedding anniversary with Richard, the love of her life, who serenaded her in song their whole lives long. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SouthCare Marietta Chapel, 595 Franklin Rd., Marietta, GA 30067. A Funeral service will be performed by Father John Matejek on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at St. Catherine’s of Sienna Catholic Church, at 10:30 a.m. Her grandsons Patrick Proulx, Richard and Daniel Leroux and Nick Powers, will have the honor of serving as her pallbearers. The final committal of Elizabeth to eternal rest will be made at the Georgia National Cemetery, off Hwy. 20, 1080 Veteran’s Cemetery Road, Canton, GA, on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. Elizabeth and her family would like to thank the Wellstar Hospice staff, Liason, and Nurses Aids, who treated Elizabeth with dignity and love even though her time under their care was short. Memorial donations may be made to EWTN (Eternal Word Network) or the charity of your choice.
