Life Legacy


Curtis Hayes Massie, 81, of 3733 Eastside Highway, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Envoy Health Care in Staunton.
Born September 8, 1928 in Stuarts Draft, he was the son of Zack Rawlins and Fannie Jane Hayes Massie.
He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren.
He was a former employee of the Waynesboro General Electric Plant and retired from the Waynesboro DuPont Company after 21 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Edward Massie, Benny Phillip, James, Clyde Massie, sisters, Nita Campbell, Marian Harris, Jean Mahler, half brothers, Wallace, Samuel, Albert, Lester and Glenwood Massie.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patsy Lyons Massie, three sons, Kurt Douglas Massie and his wife Mickey K. of Waynesboro, Charles Edward Massie and his wife Denise of Grottoes, Chad Michael Massie and his wife Mandy Marie of Grottoes, three daughters, Mary Jane Massie Wimer and her husband Denny of Waynesboro, June Maria Massie Blosser of Waynesboro, Diane Massie of Grottoes, a brother, Lyle David Massie of PA, two sisters, Shirley M. Clark, Margorie Massie, both of FL., thirteen grandchildren, Michelle Wilcher, Jason Edward Massie, Mandy Blosser, Natosha M. Ritchie, Brooke Massie, Carrie Blosser, Jeffrey Massie, Cynthia N. Massie, Joshua Hayes Massie, Matthew Garrett Wimer, Michael Dawson Wimer, Katlyn Massie, Zachary Hayes Massie, eleven great-grandchildren, Savannah Ritchie, Naomi Ritchie, Matthew Edward Massie, Jenna N. Massie, Hannah E. Massie, Zachary Floyd Massie, Kaylee Maria Blosser, Braylon Brooks, Tyler Wilcher, Ryan Wilcher and Nathan Wilcher.
He also leaves three sisters-in-law, Thelma Massie, Anna Beard, Eunice Wiseman, a special friend, Loretta Massie, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, November 16, 2009 at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren by Pastor George Yocum. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Grottoes Veterans Association.
Active pallbearers will be Frankie Lyons, Mike Sorrells, John Lang, Norman Barry, Greg Holsinger, Adam Holsinger and Tony Ball.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Thompson, David Critzer, Dennis Beard and Mike Ulm.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Sunday at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
