Jane C. Wright, 89, passed away quietly on Sunday, June 17, 2007. Mrs. Wright was born on January 5, 1918 to the late Robert P.M. Case and Emma Y. Case.Her father died when she was only one year old. In order to support their small family her mother moved to Nashville, TN to further her education at Peabody University. During this five-year period Mrs. Wright lived with her grandparents in Lawrenceburg, KY.
Mrs. Wright began her education at Eastern Kentucky University’s Model High School. She earned a degree in elementary education from Eastern Kentucky University in 1939. Her first position was as a fourth grade teacher in Augusta, KY. Her distinguished career continued to include several educational positions most notably spending 18 years as an elementary teacher with the Maysville City Schools. Prior to her retirement in 1977 she was awarded the Centennial Award for Excellence in teaching by Eastern Kentucky University.
Mrs. Wright is survived by her husband of 65 years, Eugene F. Wright and their three children: Eugene F. Wright, Jr. of Ripley, Charles Wright of Maysville and Susan Wright Wills of Satellite Beach, FL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to her family Mrs. Wright was a prominent member of many organizations including: International Reading Association (past president/co-founder), E.K.E.A. Board of directors, Maysville Education Association (past president), Forest Avenue PTA (past president), 6th Ward School PTA (past president), Limestone Chapter DAR, Delta Kappa Gamma, Maysville AAUW (past president), Friends of the Library (past president), Paxton Inn Board of Director/DAR and the Presbyterian Woman’s Association.
Further, she was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Maysville and the Maysville Country Club.
She will be greatly missed by the family and community.
Funeral Services for Jane C. Wright will be conducted on Thursday, June 21, 2007, at 11 A.M. at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Broadhead officiating. Funeral will follow in the Maysville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Clarke, Kirk Clarke, Mike Denham, Doug Hendrickson, Vincent Rosenthal, Chuck Wright, Charles Carter, Dr. Jim Ney. Honorary bearers will be Robert Biddle, William Clarke, Sr., Haydon Timmons, Alex Parker, Jr., Robert Zweigart, and Steven Reed.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 21 West Third St., Maysville, KY 41056 or the charity of one’s choice.
