Shirley Ann Collings Toncray, 75, of Aberdeen, Ohio, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center after a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 6, 1934, the daughter of the late Louis and Elsie Zimmerman Collings and is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ray B. Toncray.
Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Maysville High School, a member of the Church of Nativity, the Screen Actors Guild, a volunteer with Maysville RSVP, and a member of The Maysville Players.
Shirley worked at the Grove Gift Gallery and the Daniel Boone Motor Inn.
Shirley loved her family and friends and never met a stranger. She had a smile for everyone.
In 1973, she joined The Maysville Players where she served in many capacities including acting, directing, stage production, secretary, treasurer and president. In November 2007, she appeared in her final stage production as Julia in “Lend Me A Tenor.”
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Carla (Adam Allen) Clement of Los Angeles, Jeffrey (Anita) Toncray of Aldolphus, Marla Toncray of Maysville, Michael (Maria) Toncray of Friendsville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Jaclyn (Justin) Toncray Badeau, Bryant Tuschl, Jennifer Toncray, Travis Toncray, Hayden Clement, Tara Machamer, Josh Toncray and Noah Toncray; one great-grandchild, Gabriel Toncray; a cousin, Dorothy Carr McFarland of Aberdeen; four sisters-in-law, Janice B. Collings of Maysville, Mary Ann Collings of Winter Garden, Fla., Jane Toncray of Maysville and Paula Toncray of Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rose and Sebastian Leo of Aberdeen and Wayne Poe of Maysville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tara Lou Toncray; one sister, Betty Collings Workman Martin; two brothers, Louis “Louie” Collings and James “Jimmy” Collings; and brothers and sister-in-law, A.J. “Jay” Toncray, Gene and Doris Toncray, Tom Toncray, B.F. “Biff” Workman and Keith Carr.
Funeral services for Shirley Toncray will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at The Washington Opera House with Deaconess Mary Kilborn-Huey and Father Michael Henderson officiating. Visitation 4 – 7 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at The Washington Opera House.
