John Carmen Vaffis, 86 of Linda Drive Fremont, died Wednesday evening at Memorial Hospital in Fremont. He was born on May 14, 1920 in Fremont, to Peter and Anna (James) Vaffis. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1938.


John attended Miami of Ohio in Oxford for 2 years then attended Tri-State University in Indiana. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree of Aerodynamics in 1943. He married Doris Whartenby on May 19, 1945 in Trenton, NJ. John and his brother James owned and operated Jimmy John, Kentucky Fried Chicken stores in Fremont, Port Clinton and Bowling Green.
John was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fremont, Life Member of the Elks, member of the Moose, Masonic Lodge, Zenobia Shrine of Toledo, where he participated in the flag corps, and the Fremont Country Club where he loved golfing and playing cards. John enjoyed watching all sporting events.
Surviving John is his loving wife Doris of Fremont, son Peter Vaffis of Fremont, daughter Shelley (Patrick) Hagerty of Ft. Thomas, KY, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his brother James (Dena) Vaffis of Fremont. John is preceded in death by his parents, son John, daughter-in-law Carol, sisters Helen Vaffis and Mary Jane McCormick, great grandsons Christian and Jacob Vaffis.
There will be no Visitation
A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 27, 2006, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Pastor Daniel Orr officiating.
