Glen R. Haas

Glen Richard Haas, 87, died Sunday morning, Nov. 26, 2006 at Countryside Care Center in Fremont where he was a resident. Mr. Haas was a former resident of 3105 W. Hayes Avenue.


Glen was born July 28, 1919 in Stoney Ridge to Halie and Matilda (Reitzel) Haas. He was married first to Helen Hirzel, and they were later divorced. She is now deceased. He married second Marjorie (Jopp) Magers on June 20, 1976 in Fremont at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons: Glen (Jo) Haas of Plano, Texas; James (Dottie) Haas of Howe, Indiana; three daughters: Susan (William) Mills of Vermillion, Ohio; Sharon (Phillip) Chatwood of Greenville, Ohio; and Catherine (Mike) Kauffman of Wooster, Ohio. Stepchildren include Patricia (John) Buskirk of Tiffin, Ohio; John (Debbie) Magers of Denver; James Magers of Oak Harbor; and Steve (Karen) Magers of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Twenty-eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a brother, Robert (Melba) Haas of Toledo, also survive.
Mr. Haas served in World War II with the Military Police in the U. S. Army. In the 1950s he was a sponsor of the Marshall Plan. Farming was his livelihood, and also his passion. Glen worked at Echrich for 15 years. He was an avid gardener, and loved mowing their lawn. Glen was president of the Local Tomato Growers Association. Glen loved working in his shop, creating and repairing things. He and Marge also were top-notch card players. World travelers, Glen and Marge often took off in their motorhome. Mr. Haas loved family most of all, especially his children and grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00, Dec. 2, at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church on Fangboner Rd., right behind the YMCA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice, Alzheimers, or the Humane Society.
