William E. Hampshire, 85, of Fremont, died Tuesday morning at the Ohio Veteran’s Home in Sandusky. William was born June 11, 1924 the son of Edward and Julia Hampshire. On October 6, 1951 he married Evelyn Weiler, at Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church in Fremont. William Hampshire enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the American Area Good Conduct Medal, and a Victory Medal while serving on the U.S. Abner Read in the South Pacific. Upon return from the Navy William was a Firefighter for the City of Fremont. He also worked in maintenance for Mosser Construction. William was a member of the former Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church, where he taught Adult Sunday School Classes and sat on the Board of Trustees. William was also an avid fisherman.

Surviving are his children: son, Steve (Candice) Hampshire of Fremont, and daughter, Cathy George of Galion; grandchildren: Nathan (Kala) George, Evan George and Zachary Hampshire; sister, Marian Guyton of Springfield, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, and an infant sister.
The family wishes to thank Stein Hospice and the Ohio Veteran’s Home for their compassionate care.


Visitation: will take place Thursday from 6 -8 P.M. at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH.

Funeral Services: will take place Friday at 11:00 A.M. with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M, at Hayes United Methodist Church in Fremont, Pastor Denise Turpin officiating.
Burial : will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Fremont, with Military Graveside Honors.

Memorial Contributions: may be made to Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Stein Hospice or the Ohio Veteran’s Home

Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St., was entrusted with the privilege of serving William’s family.
