Anchorage resident Lillie Mae Nelson, 72, died in her sleep Feb. 13, 2008, at home. A visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel followed by a funeral. Mrs. Nelson was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Louisiana. She moved to Anchorage in 1976. She loved to cook and teach people how to cook her recipes. She also liked crossword puzzles and watching television. Her family wrote, "Mae will always be remembered for being an unselfish person who always saw the best in everyone. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those who were blessed to have known her." Mrs. Nelson is survived by her daughters, Linda Washington, Arlene Nelson-Frelix and Jennifer Nelson; son, Larry Nelson; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Cherylynn Nelson and Carl and Laura Nelson; brother, James Hollins Jr.; stepmother, Barbara Hollins; aunt, Emma Hollins; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and extended family, Steven Fems, Beverly Grey and Richard Rentz. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Nelson; mother, Laura Anderson; father, James Hollins; daughter-in-law, Juanita Nelson; son, Christopher Nelson; and best friend, LaVon McGasky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Pets, the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
