Robert E. Hemmer, 86, of Russellville, Arkansas, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home in Russellville, Arkansas. The son of the late Pete and Carrie Jane (Ward) Hemmer, he was born May 11, 1917 in Moreland, Arkansas. He was a life long resident of Russellville. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, becoming disabled during WWII where he served as a surgeon's assistant on several hospital ships in both the European and Pacific Theaters of operation. He was a self employed house painter, a member of Russellville Masonic Lodge #274, Rogers-Rye Post 2283 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was Assembly of God in faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Hemmer; four brothers, LeRoy Hemmer, Charles Hemmer, Jim Hemmer, & J.W. Hemmer; and a sister, Dora Ferguson.
Survivors include three sisters, Ora Lee Roberts of Tulsa, Mae Thomson of Ashdown, Cora Bowden of Tuscon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Hudson Cemetery in Moreland, AR. Dr. Steve Mosley will officiate. Masonic burial rites will be provided by Russellville Masonic Lodge #274, and Rogers-Rye Post #2283 of VFW will provide full military honors. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be 7:00-8:30 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
