Edward F. Todd

June 26, 1918 - July 14, 2009

DePeyster, NY - Funeral services for Edward F. Todd, 91, of DePeyster will be held on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Burial will be in Purmort Cemetery, DePeyster.

Friends may call at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home on Thursday, 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm.

Contributions may be made to Purmort Cemetery Assn., or to the Depeyster Methodist Church.

Mr. Todd died on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Claxton-Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg where he had been a patient since Sunday, July 12th.

Surviving are; his wife, Vida; 3 sons, Richard and his wife, Susan of Canton, Mark of Middle Grove, NY, Timothy of Endicott, NY; 2 step-sons, Lynn Edwards of Conesus, NY, Stuart Edwards and his wife, Diane of Calodonia, NY; 7 daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Susanne) Daood, Rochester, MN, Mrs. John (Rosella) Valentine, Leesburg, FL, Mary Walters, Washington, PA, Mrs. Timothy (Janette) Swindell, Endicott, NY, Mrs. Kenneth (Nora) Crowe, Heuvelton, Mrs. Walter (Amy) DeRieux, Arlington, VA, Mrs. Wayne (Korisa) Wright, Marathon, NY; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Todd, Endicott, NY; 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceasing him were; 2 sons, John who died in 1997, Homer & Gregory died in infancy, as did 2 daughters, Deborah and Sarah. Two sisters, Elsie Kirby Sharp and Ruth Hurlbut also pre-deceased him.

He was born in DePeyster, NY on June 26, 1918, the son of Edgar E. & Addie Shippee Todd. He attended DePeyster and Heuvelton schools and was first married to Doris Hale Sibley on Apr. 3, 1941, at the Presbyterian Manse in Heuvelton. She died on Feb. 28, 1982. He first worked with his parents in the operation of the Todd family store, DePeyster. Later, the couple operated a farm in DePeyster while he worked (concurrently) at the former Diamond International Paper Mill, Ogdensburg for 25 years. He retired as foreman in 1978. He sold the farm to Norman Drummond in 1982 and built his present home in DePeyster in 1983. He married Mrs. Vida Lowery Edwards on Apr. 28, 1990 at the DePeyster Methodist Church. He was a member of the DePeyster Methodist Church, the Flirts & Skirts Square Dance Club of Canton, a Trustee of Purmort Cemetery Assn., and a member of the Diamond Sportsmenís Club, Colton, NY. He enjoyed turkey and deer hunting, fishing, gardening, square dancing, and card playing.
