Life Legacy

Arlene Louella (nee Sadler) Doig, 79, beloved wife of the late Russell Ritter Doig, devoted mother of Laura Beth Burkhart of Baltimore, MD, Bonnie Anne Downey of Massanutten, VA, Margaret Allene Richardson of Dallas, GA, and James Russell Doig of Powder Springs, GA, entered into the presence of her loving Savior on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA.

Mrs. Doig was born on August 31, 1933 in Smithfield, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Lela Alice (nee Conrad) and Edgar Sadler. She lived in Uniontown, PA until her employment with the National Security Agency in Washington, DC where she met her devoted and loving husband "Rus". After three tours to Germany with NSA, they moved to Randallstown, MD where Mrs. Doig lived until 2010. In 2010 Mrs. Doig moved to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and set up residence at Bridgewater Retirement Community.

Mrs. Doig retired from NSA after a few years of employment to become a homemaker for her loving family. She was a member of Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church, Reisterstown, MD and more recently of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Harrisonburg, VA. She led many Bible studies where she shared her faith in Christ. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life, and in the peace that she demonstrated as she endured end stage renal failure and the eventual pneumonia in her last days.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years in 1997. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother, Ronald Wayne Sadler of Jacksonville, FL and several cousins, aunts and uncles in Pennsylvania. She was the loving mother-in-law of Brenton Burkhart, Michael Downey and Allen Richardson. She was also a devoted grandmother to Christopher and wife Megan Downey of Atlanta, GA, Meganne Downey of Harrisonburg, VA, Elizabeth Richardson of Statesboro, GA, Benjamin Richardson of Dallas, GA, Avery Doig Graham Doig and Caden Doig, all of Atlanta, GA. She was expecting her first great grandchild in April 2013. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. She loved her family and enjoyed when they were all gathered around her.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 pm on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road, Reisterstown, MD. The Reverend Herb Ruby will conduct a memorial service at Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church, 820 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown, MD on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park, Sykesville, MD.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Covenant of Grace Presbyterian Church, 820 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown, MD 2136 or to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 32 Southgate Court Suite 101, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
