Life Legacy


Minnie Arene Willhide, 91, of Hampstead died on February 27, 2012 at the Shepherd's Glen Assisted Living in Taneytown. Born September 23, 1920 , she was the daughter of the late George Augustus and Mary Catherine (Reaver) Wright. She was the beloved wife of Paul Elmer Willhide, Sr. who predeceased her on November 23, 1979.

She was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Hampstead for 35 years. During her lifetime, she accomplished many different tasks. She worked along side her husband helping to run a dairy farm in Manchester for 20 years. She also worked for 11 years as a psychiatric nurse's aide at Springfield State Hospital. Following that, she worked for 2 years at the shoe factory in Westminster, and ended her working career at the Maryland Cup Company for 15 years until her retirement at 65 years old. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her garden, preparing delicious meals, helping at her Church, and visiting and helping her family and friends whenever she could.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Paul Elmer Willhide, Jr. and Janet Marie, daughter Barbara Jean Downs, daughter and son-in-law Cathie Willhide and Alfred Lester Seivold, Sr., son and daughter-in-law Robert Allen Willhide and Sandra Lee, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

She was predeceased by a grandson Paul David Willhide and her seven brothers Fred T., Paul D., Charles A., William W., G. Herman, Albert B. and Thomas C. and her two sisters Bessie May Eckenrode and Elizabeth Leann Condon.

The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1 at the Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main Street, Hampstead. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1205 N. Main St., P.O. Box 185, Hampstead, MD 21074.
