Elaine Watson Heath Carey

Elaine Watson Heath Carey, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Bayview Nursing Center.Mrs. Carey was a member of the Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She was known as “Granny” by her grandchildren and enjoyed her flowers & gardening. She bestowed much love and joy and many words of wisdom to all who knew her. Mrs. Carey was preceded in death by her first husband: C.D. Heath, Jr., her parents: Furney and Mollie Watson and twin daughter: Sandra Heath Rivera and son-in-law, Jules C. Rivera, Jr.; two brothers: Levi James Watson and Furney Wright Watson.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Barnhill officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.

She is survived by her husband: J.B. Carey; one son: Danny Heath, III and wife Linda Gay of New Bern; one daughter: Brenda H. Mahaffey and husband Dr. Charles of Elizabeth City, NC; three step daughters: Betty Willis and husband Billy from New Bern, Barbara Lupton and husband Rev. Owen of Merritt, NC and Ruth Powers of Picayune, Miss.; four grandchildren: Charles Mahaffey, II, Molly H. Knowles, Cleester D. Heath, IV, Michele Price; five great grandchildren; six step grandchildren: Lorrie Willis, Greg Willis, Carey Willis, Gail Heath, Derrick Powers, and Scott Powers; and seven step great grandchildren. A devoted nephew and his wife, James Arthur Watson and Barbara, also survive her.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Monday night at Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
