Maris Elaine Johnson, 71, formerly of Twin Falls, and Ely, Nevada, passed away January 4, 2011 at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of One Source Hospice.
Maris was born August 13, 1939 in Ely, Nevada. She was the daughter of Warren and Opal Stever. She grew up in Hansen. Maris was the middle child of five. Her siblings are Donald Stever of Butte Montana, David Stever of Greensboro North Carolina, Phyllis Halstead (deceased), of Lund Nevada, and Sherry Freed of Eugene Oregon.
Maris met and married Melvin Jaramillo. They lived on the Air Force Base in Mt. Home. They later divorced. She met and married Bud Silvers. They lived in Kimberly and Twin Falls until 1976. They then moved to Ely Nevada. Bud passed away in 1986. She married the love of her life, Sonny Johnson, in 1991. They lived in Ely. He passed away in March of 2003.
Maris was a member of The Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary Post 3547,
where she attended regularly and enjoyed morning coffee with all of her friends.
Maris worked as a waitress and as a Mail Carrier for many years in Ely Nevada. She made many friends as people were passing through, and on her routes. No one was a stranger to Maris.
Maris enjoyed sewing and crafts. She loved making quilts for each of her grandkids and great-grandkids. She and Sonny loved camping and driving in the mountains around Ely.
Survivors include her brothers: Donald (Carol) Stever, David (Betty) Stever, sister, Sherry (Ken) Freed, children: Terry (Tony) Beitia of Boise, Tim (Lisa) Jaramillo of Rigby. She had eight grand children; Leslie (Craig) Neilsen, Josh (Michelle) Bartlome , Jennifer Jaramillo, Sierra Divine, Justin Jaramillo, Kristal Jaramillo, Chancee Vincent and Jessica Divine. She had six great-grand children; Montana, Lauren, McKenzie and Dylan Swanson, Kennedy and Harlowe Bartlome all from Idaho. She had nieces and nephews thru out the United States. Maris also had many extended family members she cherished from the Silvers family.
Maris was preceded in death by both of her parents, an infant brother, her sister Phyllis Halstead, and husbands, Sonny Johnson and Bud Silvers.
Maris was a wonderful mother, sister, wife and grandmother. She loved her family and we are blessed to be her family. We love you very much Mom, and you will be missed.
Graveside services will be at a later date in Ely, Nevada.
