S. Hazel Ostrom, 92, of Lexington, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away on January 8, 2008.
Sylvia Hazel was born on February 18, 1915 at Beaver Crossing, NE to John & Josephine (Krasomil) Pettijohn. She graduated high school Salutatorian in 1933 at Trenton, NE. Hazel married Harry Ostrom on October 15, 1936 in Denver, CO. To this union were born 3 children: John, Grant and Cherry.
Hazel & Harry moved back to his familyâ€™s farm north of Gothenburg on the Tallin Table shortly after they were married. They farmed there until 1981 when they moved into Gothenburg. They lived in Gothenburg until 1998 when they moved to Lexington.
Hazel put her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus as a child. She had a God-given gift of studying Godâ€™s Word and teaching Sunday School for over 50 years.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Harry, daughter-in-laws Annette Ostrom & Connie Ostrom, a grandson Kurt Ostrom, and 4 sisters: Lucy Davis, Irene Egleston, Esther Davis, Gladys Fredrickson; 2 brothers: Fielding & Charles Pettijohn.
Survivors include: 3 children: John Ostrom of Lexington, NE; Grant (Anita) Ostrom of Tennessee; Cherry (Vern) Kuhlman of Colorado Springs, CO. 9 grandchildren: Anne Eilers, Lars Ostrom, Leif Ostrom, David Ostrom, Kurt Ostrom, Timothy Ostrom, Trae Strube, Michael Kuhlman, Keith Kuhlman and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 10, 2008, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008, 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Gothenburg, Nebraska, with Pastor Larry Viter and Hazelâ€™s son Pastor Grant J. Ostrom officiating.
Burial will take place in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
