Dr. Vijay Kumar Beri

Dr. Vijay Kumar Beri passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at the young age of 57. He was a man of many passions, who was defined by his generosity. He truly lived to bring happiness to his family, friends, and patients.

Vijay was born in New Delhi, India to Prakash Chand Beri and Kailash Wati Beri. Always thirsty for knowledge, he read avidly from a young age, completing both the Ramayan and Mahabartha by the fourth grade. Despite multiple moves and changes of schools, he achieved highest honors at every stage of his education, including graduating number one in his class from high school.

At the age of 16, Vijay was admitted to, and began medical school at the Government Medical College, Rohtak, India. After training in India, Vijay came to the United States in 1976. He met and married the love of his life, Neno, in 1977. They were blessed with twin daughters - Rohinee and Raagnee - in 1978, and a third daughter, Shivani (Vijay’s gem) in 1983.

Dr. Beri began his practice in Allergy and Immunology in Sheboygan in 1981. He often expressed love for his work and he truly enjoyed taking care of his patients. He believed in educating his patients, and settled at nothing less than perfection in providing medical care and advice. He cherished that which he learned from his patients, and smiled as he recounted the nice stories that his patients shared with him.

Vijay participated wholeheartedly in life. He enjoyed reading, poetry, golf, tennis, ping-pong, and singing; but most of all, he loved to spend time with his loved ones. He was a kind and expressive man with a quiet confidence and humility. He was never afraid to show affection through his beautiful smile, warm hugs, and poetic words, spoken with a gentle and soothing voice. We are thankful to have been blessed with the time that we had with him.

Vijay is survived by his wife of 30 years, Neno Beri, three daughters - Rohinee Beri, Raagnee Beri, and Shivani Beri; his mother, Kailash Beri, four brothers and respective sisters-in-law - Raj and Kiron Beri, Sudhir and Neeraj Beri, Ravi and Rajni Beri, Sandip and Neelima Beri; his sister Veena Tandon, and brother-in-law, Subash Tandon; father-in-law, Sarjit Sikand, his sister-in-law and her husband, Beno and Avtar Dhindsa; his sister-law Kiron Sikand, his brother-in-law Gurjeet Sikand; his nieces and nephews - Manu Beri, Rohit Beri, Praveen Tandon, Amit Tandon, Shailee Beri, Vikram Beri, Shikhaa Beri, Karan Beri, Himani Beri, Dhananjay Beri, Satvik Beri, Sonya Dhindsa, and Ajay Beri; his many, many friends; and finally his two little puppies, Coco and Nonu.

Vijay was preceded in death by his father and mentor Prakash C. Beri, and his mother-in-law, Janak Sikand.

Services will take place on Wednesday, (TODAY) January 2, 2008 at Ballhorn Funeral Home with visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a religious service from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and then cremation.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to a fund set up in Vijay Beri’s name to fulfill his lifelong dream of helping to educate underserved children in India, specifically by providing books. The fund is at Johnson Bank at 815 Woodlake Road, Kohler, WI 53044, (920) 208-7440.
