Life Legacy

Alice Elizabeth “Betty” Krug, 96, of Othello, formerly of Connell, died Friday, June 18 at The Coventry House with her friends and family by her side.

Betty was born on January 18, 1914 in Mineral, WA, to Dr. Furman and Barbara (Hill) Shadd. In the early 1920’s She moved with her family to Othello where her father set up his medical practice. Betty’s parents insisted that she learn play the piano. She became an accomplished musician, playing the saxophone, and accordion as well as the piano. At Dr. Shadd’s death, Betty and her mother moved to Spokane were Betty completed her high school, at Lewis and Clark High School, and also went to Beauty School. The romance that had begun in Othello with Raymond Krug blossomed in Spokane. They were married on April 16th 1931 and then they returned to Othello. They farmed a section located on the corner of what is now Hwy 26 and Booker Rd., which they lovingly called the “Dude Ranch”. They then moved to the family homestead near Connell. During this time Betty was a wife and mother and continued with her music, mainly by playing organ and piano at Gideon Lutheran Church in Connell. She played music for the church for over 65 years. In 1986 Raymond passed away. On February 18, 1990, Betty married a long time family friend, Wilbur Krug. Wilbur passed away in 2009.

Betty had many talents. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and tatting.

Betty had three main passions in her life; family was always first, faith and church a close second and all were sewed together with her love of music. She belonged to the Gideon Lutheran Church of Connell and, later, the Pilgrim Lutheran Church of Othello. As a member of the Gideon Lutheran Church, she worked on the worship and music committees for many years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, a brother, John, and a grandson, Randy Krug. She is survived by her son, Robert (Jean) Krug of Othello, and daughters Marilyn “Boots” R. Warsinske of Spokane, Janee Theleman of Buckley, WA, and Carol (Richard) Alldredge of Auburn, WA, 12 grand children, 10 great grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren.

Betty is also survived by three stepdaughters; Marcia Krug, of Kennewick WA, Anita Pederson, of Chehalis WA., and Phyllis Hailey, of Everett WA.

Memorials are suggested to either the Gideon Lutheran Church, or Pilgrim Lutheran Church Memorial Funds in Betty’s name.
